Happy new year! 2012 was a rough year for me in general, I think it's all part of growing up and graduate school has definitely taken its toll on me. I felt like I spent too much time indoors and not enough time spent outside, so I started 2013 off with a 2-hour hike with a friend in Pacifica, CA. We ended up hiking to the top of Sweeney Ridge and we got to explore an abandoned Nike missile site. I love new adventures! On the way up I spotted some new mushrooms! I forgot how excited I get when I spot new mushrooms--especially because I can flip through my mushroom identification field guide. I love mushroom hunting, I'm definitely going to set some time aside to identify new mushrooms around the Bay Area.
Nike Missile Site SF-51, abandoned in 1974
The plant in the middle adds to the post-apocalyptic feel of this place.
Inside the Nike Missile Site
The recent rains made this place especially swampy...
I didn't go further than this, but next time I will!
Spotted this mushroom on the way up to the missile site, the classic fairy toadstool.

Cheers to 2013!
