10 year-old Orchid in Bloom

The 10 year-old orchid that's been sitting in my parent's gateway always surprises me. Throughout the year it looks like looks like we left a dead plant in a pot. An ivy plant somehow made its home in the same pot and aside from rainfall, we never water it. Once a year, however,  it goes in full bloom and suddenly it demands to be seen every time someone walks upstairs. It's beautiful, that whole year of looking dried up and it always returns with a bang.
